Adventure Summary: A one-session wilderness rescue for four to five 6th-level characters. A merchant caravan has vanished on the Glass Moonsea as a fallen star shard turns moonlight into solid, moving roads, and the party must navigate the shifting desert, free the trapped travelers, and ground the shard before sunrise shatters the entire basin.
Shattered Meridian Saga: Part 2 of 4. This adventure stands alone. Previously: The Vault of Seven Suns. The saga continues with The Tempest Isles of Veyra.
Overview
At night, the Glass Moonsea becomes a silver mirror crossed by raised roads of solid moonlight. A caravan followed one such road and now hangs upside down beneath the glass, visible but unreachable. Guide Veyra Pell hires the party to recover twenty travelers and the water condenser they need to survive.
Track Fracture from zero to four. Add one after a failed navigation challenge, heavy thunder damage on exposed glass, or ten minutes without stabilizing an anchor. At Fracture 4, every creature in the finale makes a DC 15 Dexterity save each round or slides 20 feet toward an opening crack.
Background
A shard from the Asterion meridian crossed the sky and buried itself beneath the Moonsea. It magnifies moonlight into temporary bridges while pulling reflected objects below the glass. The local Shellback Nomads know how to ground such light with copper anchors, but scavengers stole three anchors from the stranded caravan.
Standalone hook: Veyra provides a route chart, two copper anchors, and mirrored goggles. Recovering the caravan and grounding or removing the shard restores the Moonsea. Mira Solglass joins as a consultant, but her complete procedures appear below and no earlier adventure knowledge is required.
Characters
- Veyra Pell: A fearless Moonsea guide who reads cracks through the soles of her boots and refuses to abandon a traveler.
- Mira Solglass: The astronomer who can identify the fallen shard and calibrate a safe grounding triangle.
- Mirrorback Ravager: A territorial glass predator that copies the last attack reflected across its shell.
Setting
The route crosses Moon Gate, Singing Dunes, Broken Reflection, the Inverted Caravan, Anchor Field, and Starfall Crater. Driving a copper anchor requires an action and a DC 15 Athletics, Arcana, or smith’s tools check. Three anchors within 60 feet create stable ground between them.
Daylight is a clock rather than a punishment. At dawn, solid moon roads dissolve and trapped reflections return to the surface, but any ungrounded crack explodes into harmless-looking razor flakes. The map identifies shelter trenches and anchor sites for a fair route.
Plot Outline
The party crosses the Singing Dunes, recovers a stolen anchor from Mirrorback Ravagers, descends through Broken Reflection, frees the Inverted Caravan, and carries three anchors to Starfall Crater. They may ground the shard, lift it with the caravan rig, or convince the nomads to absorb it into a new permanent moon marker.

1. The Road That Climbs
At Moon Gate, a silver road rises thirty feet above the basin. Three DC 15 Acrobatics, Nature, Perception, or Survival successes before two failures reach the first shelter. A failure adds Fracture and separates one traveler onto a parallel road, reachable with a rope or a 10-foot jump.
2. Singing Dunes
Wind across glass ridges produces notes that indicate safe thickness. The party needs three DC 15 Performance, Perception, Survival, or navigator’s tools successes. Two failures awaken two Mirrorback Ravagers. Matching the lowest dune note with an instrument grants one automatic success.
3. Broken Reflection
The caravan appears twenty feet below the transparent surface. The party can open a reflection gate with four DC 15 Arcana, Athletics, Investigation, or mason’s tools successes. Each failure deals 7 slashing damage to the acting character and adds Fracture, but creates a handhold for the next attempt.
4. Twenty Travelers Upside Down
Travelers cling to wagons on the underside of the glass. Run three rescue rounds. Each round requires two DC 15 Athletics, Acrobatics, Medicine, or Persuasion successes to move a group through the gate. A failure costs supplies or adds Fracture, never a life. Veyra can secure one group automatically.
5. Starfall Crater
The shard rides a rotating moonbeam above the crater while a Ravager Alpha guards the third anchor. At initiative count 20, the beam becomes a wall that moves 15 feet. The party wins by reducing the Alpha to 18 hit points, planting three anchors with DC 15 checks, or luring the Alpha’s copied thunder attack into the shard supports.

6. Sunrise on Solid Ground
The caravan rises upright as the first sunlight crosses the basin. Veyra counts all twenty travelers and the Moonsea settles into ordinary glass. The grounded shard projects a route into the clouds, but the rescue and desert crisis are fully resolved.
NPCs and Monsters
| NPC or Monster | Statistics | Key Abilities and Table Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Veyra Pell | Medium humanoid; AC 15, HP 52, speed 35 ft. | Survival +9. Read the Crack prevents one slide each round. Veyra rescues travelers before attacking and shares all route information. |
| Mira Solglass | Medium humanoid; AC 14, HP 38, speed 30 ft. | Arcana +7. Field Calibration adds 1d4 to a mirror, star, or navigation check. Mira grounds the shard and avoids melee. |
| Mirrorback Ravager | Large monstrosity; AC 17, HP 85, burrow 20 ft. | Two glass claws +7, 2d8 + 4 slashing. Copy Reflection repeats one damage type. Retreats if surrounded by three grounded anchors. |
Rewards
- 800 gp in caravan shares, preserved water, and cut moon-glass from Veyra’s employers.
- Moonsea Anchor: This uncommon folding copper spike creates a small zone of stable footing and can halt forced movement once per dawn.

Scaling the Adventure
For 5th level, reduce the Ravager to 68 hit points and omit the second Ravager at Singing Dunes. For 7th level, begin at Fracture 1 and add one Ravager in the crater. For a two-hour session, begin at Broken Reflection with one anchor recovered. For groups avoiding sharp-glass hazards, use smooth crystal plates and force damage instead of slashing damage.
