Saltroad Rosary

Twelve carved salt beads and a silver wave medallion protect a pilgrim's memory and point toward nearby shelter.

Properties

Wondrous item, uncommon. No attunement is required. Once per long rest after failing a Wisdom saving throw, the bearer can roll 1d4 and add it to the result, potentially turning failure into success. Once per dawn, placing one bead at a roadside shrine reveals the direction, but not distance, to the nearest structurally safe shelter for eight hours; the bead reforms at dawn.

Lore

Salt Road pilgrims carve one bead for each remembered name. The silver medallion grows cold when a spirit repeats a name without understanding it.

Game Master guidance

Safe shelter means a location protected from ordinary weather and immediate environmental collapse, not necessarily from inhabitants. The bonus is chosen after the failed save, and the item cannot be used more than once per long rest.

Related use

The item is designed as a memorable reward rather than a requirement for later play. A party without it can solve every related scene with the listed checks, tools, spells, or environmental choices.
